Just some thoughts for Grim and Kal:

I understand that in today's day and age the web is all about making money, and all. But I was wondering, should the "Location" field be allowed to become an advertising spot? Is the web becoming such an impersonal spot that people can't even be bothered to enter a city? or a funny saying? but we must resort to domain names?

Maybe I am way too anal, I just kinda would like to see where a person is from, so I can get a little insight as to what people are talking about, or the language to use, hell, a funny phrase at least amuses you like "inside the machine" or "Laa Laa Land" or anything else that is original.

But Domain Names? We are give siggy lines, and avatars! but I guess that is not enough!

I am not asking for change, or trying to tell you how to run your very successful sites, maybe I am just wondering how the ownership group feels about this matter? maybe I am just wondering if I am the only one in the world that feels this way?

Enforcing such a thing would be extremely difficult, plus it's not mandatory to fill in where you are from.

I guess within reason the spots offered for editing is open season..

We can however take it under advisement ;)

I do agree Mike, that's why at Webtalkforums I set it so dots and other symbols cannot be used in that field. We're still just getting this forum going, but most of those settings from WTF will be implemented here, there's nothing I hate more than seeing somedomain.com in the location spot, it's total abuse/misuse of the spot in my opinion.

I've also actively removed such attempts when I saw them at WTF, such as somedomaincom, ways to get around the censor...

No thanks on this one, like Grim said, we are made to fill it in and its not killing anyone

Hey Hurley:

Usually, the suggestions and feedback forum, is for members to communicate with the staff, about issues they might have!

So lets recap, I am the member with the issues, Kalina and Grim are the staff.

I use it over at the pit... my location is: www.webtalkforums.com
Most of the time that really is my location. Guess there are exceptions to every rule!
I also use a very fetching avatar over there designed by our very own Jani. If anyone else wants to use it they'd be very welcome.

I hate to get technical,

But if that is what your location is, maybe we need to change the name of the field to: "Web Location"

I know it is a very slim line differentiating actual location from online location, but if you try real hard, im sure you can figure it out!! LOL

Nah, no need for that. The pit is the only place I have a non-geographic location and that's just so I can fly the WTF flag a bit. I may well change it to STF some time and get a new avatar for the occasion too...

...In fact I'm off to ask Jani to do me a new STF avatar now. I will share it with everyone in Kalina's banner thread once complete.
